The spiral of  the entrance ushered then into the black … sets the scene, entering into the underworld where we stumble upon all array of objects, that look as if they had been touched just yesterday, or even just a couple of hours ago. Still humming with life I would want to talk of ghosts and presences to evoke how vibrant this show is, yet can’t as these object  really are too robust too alive, despite obvious damage in certain cases. But it is certainly true that though t their bodies may have passed the very essence of the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum are here.

All this present (theirs),  swept in one swift blackout, this bubble of time seconded into our present. Like a parallel world, landed here like as if the British

Museum had acted like the Tardis and cut across time and space bring it here.  Or even better, As if Dorothy was a Roman girl and her entire house had been trans ported from 83.B.c. to our present.

They say that the pyroclastic blast that fell over Herculaneum instantly dissolved Human flesh,  rapid and intense the blast heat that everyone was snuffed out before they had realised what had happened.

The curators of this show have strenuously expressed their want and excitement that the public should meet these people, and have with this exhibition a close contact, really see and get to know the Romans through the shape of their daily lives.
